Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Great Old TV Shows website. We created this site because we couldn't find (anywhere on the internet), a place where one could easily discover what is now available on DVD. This uncluttered website's theme leans heavily towards the "cleaner" TV series of the past. Many of the more recent shows aired these days are filled with either sex, violence, gore or "bathroom humor". Even if you do find a great old tv show on cable, you still have to endure occasional "questionable" commercials or previews. We tried to anticipate any questions you might have regarding this website and the DVDs that are sold. Remember that not all TV shows are on DVD yet. So check back from time to time for new releases.

If I have a problem with a purchased DVD, should I contact greatoldtvshows.com?
No. This website is owned by a middle class couple living in Vermont. We are a registered associate for Amazon.com. This means when you click on a particular product listed on our website, the link takes you directly to the page on Amazon.com where you can get more details and purchase. We basically save you a lot of time and effort searching through Amazon's massive website while trying to recall your favorite old shows. If a purchase is made, eventually we receive a small commission.
No. The videos are often not a very accurate example of the purchased DVDs. Keep in mind that there are many different companies recording these DVD sets. Most companies make at least some effort to clean up the picture quality while others make a huge effort by digitally remastering the episodes making them look and sound better than they were originally broadcast. You might want to read some customer reviews located at the bottom of the Amazon.com pages that occasionally talk about the quality of the prints used to make the DVD recordings.
Either the DVD has not been released yet, Amazon.com doesn't carry it or we missed it while sorting through the choices to put on this site. We welcome a friendly notification from you if we accidently overlooked something.
Amazon.com sells most or all of what has been legally released to date by the owners of the television shows. If you don't see a complete series available for a particular show on our site, that means it has not been officially released yet. These bootlegged collections are almost always an inferior quality. Please be aware that Amazon (unfortunately) allows some of those DVD websites to advertise on their site.
Probably not. Since we are not directly involved with the product purchase, you should contact Amazon.com. They will provide polite and proper customer service. However, if you want to give us a heads up on a terrible DVD, then we would welcome that so we could consider whether or not to continue to advertise the DVD on our site.
Why don't you stock the DVDs yourself and sell directly through your website?
Aside from all the issues with stocking, shipping and processing payments, we think that most people feel much more comfortable (when making an online purchase) if the company is very well known and reliable. Amazon.com is one of the biggest online retailers in the world.
Why are the prices of the DVDs so varied?

Have you actually watched all the great old TV shows listed on this website?
Well no. I don't think anyone has that much free time. We had to make some guesses about many of the shows we haven't actually watched. Hopefully all the DVDs listed on this site go along with the theme of "cleaner" family friendly shows. If not, please let us know. We welcome any feedback.
DVD prices vary because of quality, demand, and possibly greed. As mentioned above, some companies that make these DVDs put a lot of time, effort and money into them. That often means a more expensive DVD. Some DVDs are priced higher simply because the company knows how popular the TV show was and that people will probably pay top dollar for them. Please note that Amazon.com has their item price, then just below that, you can find slightly different prices (from independent sellers) including sometimes a used DVD. Although Amazon tends to include free shipping.
When watching a mini reminder video, the stream occasionally stops, then starts, then stops again. Is there something wrong?
No. The cause of that is lack of speed with your internet connection. Also, an older or very busy computer might have some trouble. The videos are pretty short so most people will not have this problem.

Each time I click on an item, a new browser window opens to the correct Amazon page. If I add items to the cart in different browser windows, will all of my items appear in one cart?
Yes. Amazon's website has the ability to keep track of whatever you are adding to your shopping cart even though you are adding items in separate browser windows. In fact, it will store your shopping cart for a period of time so you can leave their site then come back later and continue shopping or check out.
